It is a well known fact that over time dentures can become loose.

This is due to the bone shrinking and resorbing so the denture doesn’t fit quite so comfortably.

Due to this, food and debris can get trapped under the denture and irritate the gums, speech can become more difficult as the denture keeps moving and eventually you may need to apply adhesive numerous times a day.

When it gets to this stage a lot of people loose confidence in themselves.

Implant retained dentures are a modern approach to fixing these problems.

Implant retained dentures provide predictability and security.  No longer will the denture move when eating.  In fact, with implant retained dentures your chewing capability is improved so you can eat a wider variety of food.  Implant retained dentures are also high aesthetic and natural looking, people wont even know that you have dentures.

How does implant retained dentures work?

Between 2-6 implants are placed in the upper or lower jaw.  Depending on the case a locator is placed onto the implant or a bar and the denture attaches onto this.

What is the difference between an implant retained denture or implant retained bridge?

The only difference is that an implant retained denture is removable.  This is perfect for someone who perhaps isn’t as dexterous and may find it difficult to clean under the implant retained bridge.  With the implant retained denture you can remove it from the mouth, clean it and your mouth and place it back in.
